The Museum of Antiquities / Royal Coincabinet, Rapenburg 28, Leiden
On Saturday October 16th. 1999, the annual ONS-meeting in the Netherlands
will be held at the premises of the Museum of Antiquities / Royal
Coincabinet, Rapenburg 28 at Leiden.
Attention! As the Museum opens only at 12 o'clock you are
requested to use the service-entrance at the rear of the Museum (Papengracht
29)
From there you will be guided to the entrance of the Royal Coincabinet.
Again a number of different subjects will be covered. As previous years, we
propose to end the day again with a diner in an oriental atmosphere, this
time at the speciality restaurant Asian Palace. We hope that several people
again will attend the ONS-meeting and stimulate the mutual contact among the
members.

of this invitation at the (service)-entrance (Papengracht 29), no entrance
fee will be charged and the door-keeper, will guide you the way to the Royal
Coincabinet)

lectures in the auditorium of the museum;
The topics will be:
- Paul Murphy: A visit to the Indian Institute of
Research in Indian Studies (IIRNS) at Nashik, India.
- Ken Wiggins: Oriental highlights from the collection of the American
Numismatic Society (ANS) at New York.
And what else will be brought forward.

joint lunch (aprox. Dfl. 16,50/p.) at the Museum Cafe

14.00 - 14.45 |
lectures in the auditorium of the museum;
A contribution by:
- Jan Lingen: So called "Paliakatten", rupees
'struck' by the VOC at Pulicat and Negapatnam on the Coromandel coast of
India.
And what else will be brought forward.

viewing of the coins for auction. |
15.00 - 16.30 |
auction of some Oriental coins. (Again a number of coins have been donated
to the ONS. With the proceeds of this auction, the ONS will be supported; 5%
will be added to the hammer- price) For the catalogue of the coins, see
separate list.
Any postal-bids should be sent to the address
mentioned below.

communications among members and informal get-together as
well as a possibility to visit the exhibition-room of the Royal
Coin-cabinet, where at present an exhibition Farewell to
the Guilder is on display. (Note: the museum closes at 17.00 h.)

A drink at North End English Pub (on the corner of
Nooreinde / Rapenburg, followed by a diner (c. Dfl.40,=/p. excl. drinks) in
the speciality restaurant Asian Palace, Steenstraat 55. |

Travelguide and parkingfacilities at Leiden:
Leiden is easily reached by train from either Amsterdam, The Hague or
Rotterdam. The museum is located at approx. 10 minutes walking distance from
the railway-station.
By car the locality can be reached as follows:
via motorway A4 (Amsterdam - Rotterdam): turn off the motorway at
"Leiden/Zoeterwoude dorp, resp. Voorschoten", follow N206 direction Katwijk
(via Europaweg, Voorschoterweg, Churchilllaan), just before the bridge
across the river Old Rhine turn left, (Haagweg) and follow direction
"CEN-TRUM"
Parking
within the city limits of Leiden need, almost without exception, to be paid
for.
Visitors by car are advised, after having followed the before mentioned
route into the direction CENTRUM, to follow the signs P "Haagweg". From here
it takes approx. 5 - 10 minutes to walk to the museum. Small coaches may
bring you to the centre as well. A day-ticket will cost Dfl. 7,50. Parking
along the Rapenburg is also possible, a day-ticket will cost Dfl 16,=.
