The annual 2002 meeting in the Netherlands

       Saturday 19 October 2002
The Museum of Antiquities / Royal Coin cabinet, Rapenburg 26, Leiden
On Saturday October 19th 2001, the annual ONS-meeting in the Netherlands will be held at the premises of the Museum of Antiquities / Royal Coin Cabinet, Rapenburg 26 at Leiden.

Again a number of different subjects will be covered. As previous years, we propose to end the day again with a diner in an oriental atmosphere, again as last year we have opted for the speciality restaurant Asian Palace. We hope that again many people will attend the ONS-meeting and stimulate the mutual contact among the members.

The tentative program will be:

09.30 - 10.15 welcome with coffee in the library of the Royal Coin-cabinet
10.30 - 12.30 Due other activities in the Antiquarian museum, we are not able to use this time their auditorium facility and therefore the lectures will be held in the library of the Royal Coin-cabinet;
Some of the topics will be:
The Holy City of Qumm, 1000 years coinage, by Mr. Roland Dauwe.

Dr. Tjong Ding Yih will be presenting, in co-operation with Dr. Ruud Schuttenhelm, a lecture on the Chaghatayid coinage of Samarqand.

Further topics on Punch-marked coins, the Moradabad Mint in Bundelkhand and other short papers are foreseen. Additional short papers, questions, news items and what else will be brought forward. Members are invited to come forward with such short items.

12.45 - 14.00 Joint lunch (aprox. €. 8/p.) at Camino Real, Doelensteeg 8.
14.15 - 14.45 lectures in the auditorium of the museum;
Continuation of the morning session.
14.45 - 15.00 viewing of the coins for auction.
15.00 - 16.30 auction of some Oriental coins. (Again a number of coins have been donated to the ONS. With the proceeds of this auction, the ONS will be supported; 5% will be added to the hammer- price) For the catalogue of the coins, see separate list.
Any postal-bids should be sent to the address mentioned below.
16.30-17.00 Communications among members and informal get-together as well as a possibility to visit the exhibition-room of the Royal Coin-cabinet. The present exhibition is called: "Binnenlopen" (Put into Port, but has also a secondary meaning: "getting rich". In this case, by serving the Honourable Company (VOC) for their own benefit and 'happiness'. It gives numismatic evidence of the smuggle and private enterprise of the VOC officials.
(Note: the museum closes at 17.00 h.)
17.15 - c. 21.00 A drink at North End English Pub (on the corner of Noordeinde / Rapenburg, followed by a diner (c. € 20,=/p. excl. drinks) in the speciality restaurant Asian Palace, Steenstraat 55.

We hope to welcome as many members as previous years. Please inform us, at the latest before the 16th of Oct., whether you are planning to attend the meeting and if you will stay with us for diner.
