The annual 2014 meeting in the Netherlands

       Saturday October 18th 2014
Leiden University, Cleveringaplaats 1 at Leiden
On Saturday October 18th 2014, the annual ONS-meeting in the Netherlands will be held at the premises of the
Leiden University, Cleveringaplaats 1 at Leiden.

!!!!!!Yes, after 7 years we return again to Leiden!!!!!!

Again a number of different subjects will be covered. As previous years, we propose to end the day with a diner in an oriental atmosphere and again as previous year we have opted for the speciality restaurant Asian Palace. We hope that again many people will attend the ONS-meeting and stimulate the mutual contact among the members.

The tentative program will be:

09.30 - 10.15 h Welcome with coffee/tea at the restaurant ‘Pakhuis’ (former Camino Real), Doelensteeg 8, which is just a short distance from the University entrance. At 10.15 h. we will proceed from there to the lecture room at the University.
10.30 - 12.30 h lectures will be held in one of the lecture rooms of the University. Location will be indicated in the entrance hall of the University.
Some of the topics of the meeting will be an Introduction to the Coinage of Axum by Drs. Frans Weijer and The Coinage of Bhutan, an overview from the earliest times from about 1790 until the first machine struck coins in 1928 by Klaus Bronny. He is the author of a just launched publication with the same title. For those interested, copies will be at a favourable rate available from the author on the spot.
There will still be room for additional short papers, questions, news items, etc. Members are invited to come forward with it. A provisional paper Tranquabar, a former Danish enclave under the tropical sun is kept on hand by me.
12.45 - 14.00 h Joint lunch (we booked a lunch arrangement for € 13,50/p.) at the Pakhuis, Doelensteeg 8.
14.15 - 14.45 h Lectures in one of the lecture room of the University;
Continuation of the morning session.
14.45 - 15.00 h Viewing of the coins for auction.
15.00 - 16.30 h Auction of some Oriental coins. Again a number of coins have been donated to the ONS. With the proceeds of this auction, the ONS will be supported; 5% will be added to the hammer-price. All coin lots are illustrated at ZENO.RU – Oriental Coins Database. You may view this at: http://www.zeno.ru/showgallery.php?cat=11241.
16.30 - 17.00 h Communications among members and informal get-together.

17.15 - c. 21.00 h A drink at North End English Pub (on the corner of Noordeinde / Rapenburg), followed by a diner (ca. € 20,=/p. excl. drinks) in the speciality restaurant Asian Palace, Steenstraat 55.

We hope to welcome in Utrecht as many members as in previous years.
>>Please inform us, at the latest before the 15th of October 2014 whether you are planning to attend the meeting and also if you intend to stay with us for diner.<<

Travel guide and parking facilities at Leiden:
Leiden can easily be reached by train from either Amsterdam, The Hague or Rotterdam. The University is located at approx. 10 minutes walking distance from the railway-station.

By car the locality can be reached as follows:
via motorway A4 (Amsterdam - Rotterdam): turn off the motorway at "Leiden/Zoeterwoude dorp, resp. Voorschoten", follow N206 direction Katwijk (via Europaweg, Voorschoterweg, Churchilllaan), just before the bridge across the river Old Rhine turn left, (Haagweg) and follow direction "CENTRUM"

within the city limits of Leiden need, almost without exception, to be paid for. Visitors by car are advised, after having followed the before mentioned route into the direction CENTRUM, to follow the signs P “Haagweg”. From there it takes approx. 5 - 10 minutes to walk to the University. A frequent gratis ‘city shuttle’ service may bring you to our meeting place. For return service dial 071 51 20 071.
A day-ticket (5.5 to 24 hours) will cost € 12.

Yours Sincerely,
                Jan Lingen
