The annual 2024 meeting in the Netherlands

On Saturday September 9, 2023, the annual ONS-meeting in the Netherlands will be held at the premises of the Leiden University, Faculty of Archaeology, Van Steenis Building, Einsteinweg 2, 2333 CC Leiden.

As usual, there will be a number of lectures and in the late afternoon a member auction.

09.30 - 10.00 h |
Welcome at the Leiden University, Faculty of Archaeology (cafetaria)
At 10.00 h. we will proceed from there to the lecture room at the University.

10.15 - 12.30 h |
Lectures will be held in one of the lecture rooms of the University. The location will be indicated in the entrance hall of the University.
The following speakers will give a lecture:
• Till Jesberg on The early Islamic coins found during excavations in sites of the Baltic region
• Rudy Dillen on Some rare tokens of Commagene
• François Gurnet: Some interesting Caucasian imitations of Hormazd IV drachms
• Jonathan Ouellet on Exploring the Social Fabric of Early Islamic Numismatics
• Seyed Omid Mohammadi on Siyaq Numbers on Copper Coins and Countermarks during the Qajar Era
• Peter Kraneveld on The coinage of Hong Kong
• Patrick Pasmans: The Elymaean Mints

Lectures in one of the lecture room of the University; continuation of the morning session.

Viewing of the coins and books for auction. |
15.30 - 17.00 h |
Auction of some Oriental coins and books. A number of lots have been donated to the ONS. With the proceeds of this auction, the ONS will be supported and only 10% commission will be added to the hammer price.

Diner (€ 28,50/p. excl. drinks) in restaurant De Bruine Boon, Stationsweg 1, Leiden.
It is a three-course menu with the following choices:

D. Vegan burger
E. 1. Saté, 2. chicken thigh or 3. pork tenderloin

The drinks must be paid in cash at the restaurant (to our treasurer). No payments with checks or bank cards. The ONS must pay the joint bill in cash afterwards.

Travel guide and parking facilities at Leiden:
Leiden can easily be reached by train from either Amsterdam, The Hague or Rotterdam. The University is located at approx. 20 minutes walking distance from the railway-station.
By car: via motorway A4 (Amsterdam - Rotterdam): turn off the motorway at "Leiden/Zoeterwoude dorp, resp. Voorschoten".
Parking within the city limits of Leiden need, almost without exception, to be paid for.
