The annual 2011 meeting in the Netherlands

       Saturday 15 October 2011
Geldmuseum, Leidseweg 90, Utrecht
On Saturday October 15th 2011, the annual ONS-meeting in the Netherlands will be held at the premises of the
Geldmuseum, Leidseweg 90, Utrecht.

The collection of the Oriental coins of the former Ethnological Museum, Rotterdam - now known as World-museum - is in the process of being incorporated in the collection of the Money-museum. Most of the presentations therefore will be focussed on this newly acquired collection of Oriental coins.

As previous years, we propose to end the day with a diner in an oriental atmosphere and we have opted for the nearby Chinese restaurant "De Gouden Kom". We hope that again many people will attend the ONS-meeting and stimulate the mutual contact among the members.
Note: As we are charged for the extra security during the morning session, when the museum is still closed, an attendance fee of € 7.50 will be requested for.

The tentative program will be:

09.30 - 10.15 h Welcome with coffee/tea in the museum café at the ground floor.
10.30 - 12.30 h lectures will be held in the auditorium of the Museum.
The provisional program will consist of a presentations by Paul Stevens, The 'Lucknow' rupee, where was it struck? Shailendra Bhandare will speak on some interesting coins from the collection of the former Ethnological Museum, Rotterdam. Ellen Raven will focus on the Gupta coins from the same collection and Jan Lucassen & Jaco Zuijderduijn will present a social economic approach on the money use in the Eurasia space.

Additional short papers, questions, news items, etc. (as time allows) are welcome.

12.45 - 14.00 h Aperitif offered by the Geldmuseum, followed by a joint lunch (approx. € 12,50/p.p.) in the museum café. There is also the possibility to visit the library and the present exhibitions in the museum.
14.15 - 14.45 h Lectures in the lecture room of the Museum;
Continuation of the morning session.
14.45 - 15.00 h Viewing of the coins for auction.
15.00 - 16.30 h Auction of some Oriental coins. (Again a number of coins have been donated to the ONS. With the proceeds of this auction, the ONS will be supported; 5% will be added to the hammer-price). The auction list can also be consulted at the ONS website: http://www.onsnumis.org.
16.30 - 17.00 h Communications among members and informal get-together.

(Note: the museum closes at 17.00 h.)
17.15 - c. 21.00 h A drink, followed by a diner (€ 22,5/p. excl. drinks) in the Chinese restaurant "De Gouden Kom", Damstraat 22, Utrecht.

We hope to welcome in Utrecht as many members as in previous years in previous years. Please inform us, at the latest before the 12th of October 2011 whether you are planning to attend the meeting and also if you intend to stay with us for diner.
