The annual 2000 meeting in the Netherlands

The Museum of Antiquities / Royal Coincabinet, Rapenburg 28, Leiden
On Saturday October 21st 2000, the annual ONS-meeting in the Netherlands will be held at the premises of the Museum of Antiquities / Royal Coincabinet, Rapenburg 28 at Leiden.
Attention! As the Museum opens only at 12 o'clock you are requested to use the service-entrance at the rear of the Museum (Papengracht 29)

From there you will be guided to the entrance of the Royal Coincabinet. Again a number of different subjects will be covered. As previous years, we propose to end the day again with a diner in an oriental atmosphere, this time at the speciality restaurant Asian Palace. We hope that several people again will attend the ONS-meeting and stimulate the mutual contact among the members.

09.30 - 10.15 welcome with coffee in the library of the Royal Coincabinet
10.30 - 12.30 lectures in the auditorium of the museum;
Some of the topics will be:
  • Paul Murphy: Demonstration of the CD-Rom on Indian Punch-marked coins; the Kosala series.
  • Tjong Ding Yih: Typology of Xinjiang 1/2 miscal / 5 fen silver pieces, part III: Obdan Gumush series as well as an a short report on new fakes of Sino-kharosti coins.
  • Nico Arkesteijn: A surprise subject.
  • Gerard Pronk: Coinage of the VOC; position of Colombo relative to Batavia.
12.45 - 14.00 joint lunch (aprox. Dfl. 16,50/p.) at Camino Real, Doelensteeg 8.
14.15 - 14.45 lectures in the auditorium of the museum;
Continuation of the morning session and what else will be brought forward and, if times allows, a short cultural and numismatic impression of Uzbekistan by your secretary.
14.45 - 15.00 viewing of the coins for auction.
15.00 - 16.30 auction of some Oriental coins. (Again a number of coins have been donated to the ONS. With the proceeds of this auction, the ONS will be supported; 5% will be added to the hammer- price) For the catalogue of the coins, see separate list.
Any postal-bids should be sent to the address mentioned below.
16.30-17.00 communications among members and informal get-together as well as a possibility to visit the exhibition-room of the Royal Coin-cabinet. (Note: the museum closes at 17.00 h.)
17.15 - c. 21.00 A drink at North End English Pub (on the corner of Noordeinde / Rapenburg, followed by a diner (c. Dfl.40,=/p. excl. drinks) in the speciality restaurant Asian Palace, Steenstraat 55.

We hope to welcome as many members as previous years. Please inform us, at the latest before the 18th of Oct., whether you are planning to attend the meeting and if you will stay with us for diner.

Travelguide and parkingfacilities at Leiden:
Leiden is easily reached by train from either Amsterdam, The Hague or Rotterdam. The museum is located at approx. 10 minutes walking distance from the railway-station.

By car the locality can be reached as follows:
via motorway A4 (Amsterdam - Rotterdam): turn off the motorway at "Leiden/Zoeterwoude dorp, resp. Voorschoten", follow N206 direction Katwijk (via Europaweg, Voorschoterweg, Churchilllaan), just before the bridge across the river Old Rhine turn left, (Haagweg) and follow direction "CENTRUM"

Parking
within the city limits of Leiden need, almost without exception, to be paid for. Visitors by car are advised, after having followed the before mentioned route into the direction CENTRUM, to follow the signs P "Haagweg". From here it takes approx. 5 - 10 minutes to walk to the museum. Small coaches may bring you to the centre as well. A day-ticket will cost Dfl. 7,50. Parking along the Rapenburg is also possible, a day-ticket will cost Dfl 16,=.
